American Pharoah's victories in the 141 Kentucky Derby and a soggy edition of the 140th Preakness Stakes set the popular bay up for a run at history in the 147th Belmont Stakes on June 6. The Pioneerof the Nile colt was attempting to become just the 12th horse to pull off a sweep of the famed Triple Crown comprised of the three classics for sophomores.

Just like the Kentucky Derby and Preakness, American Pharoah was sent off the favorite and ran to his odds when romping home the easiest of winners. Trained by Bob Baffert for owner/breeder Ahmed Zayat, the Kentucky-bred champion took command of the race from the start and never looked back while schooling seven rivals by 5 1/2 lengths on the wire.

American Pharoah finished 1 1/2 miles in 2:26.65 under regular jockey Victor Espinoza, and, in doing so, ended a 37-year drought that dated back to Affirmed's Triple Crown in 1978.

Frosted was best of the rest, two lengths in front of Keen Ice, who took third by a neck over Mubtaahij. Frammento came next and was followed by Madefromlucky, Tale of Verve and Materiality.
